Monday Conditions!

March 8, 2010

Skied early this a.m. and although the temperature was just around freezing the skate was good. Very firm surface under about less than an inch of new snow! Back out again late afternoon and found the classic track getting soft but still very skiable. I had my waxless classic skies and had an enjoyable ski! Will keep you posted what with this warm weather.

Remember what happens in town, RAIN, is not happening here…YET!!

Snow is excellent! Grooming this evening, Friday! The conditions are fast/icy in the early a.m. until it warms up! Can get a little soft later in the day but remains firm enough for a good skate! Classic has also been wonderful! Hopefully we will get more snow this Sunday…I will post about that on Sunday.

Way to go Dom!

February 28, 2010

Congratulations to Dom Schiavone for his classic ski race at the American Birkebeiner this weekend. He placed in the top 15% of racers in his age group. Pretty impressive–may it rub off on all of us.

Trail Update and Wooden Ski

February 26, 2010

The Wooden Ski Festival was so Fun! Here is a web site to order wooden skies! www.woodenskies.com/index.html Also start looking in the second hand shops and go to garage sales to see if you can find some. We will have this festival again next year and look forward to increased numbers! Also be aware that you can still come even if you have new high tech gear! Just think of next years outfit also!

Skiing continues to be great! We will groom tonight and again Sunday morning, hopefully followed by our Monday a.m. “clean up” groomer!

See you on the trails!

ELK UPDATE!

February 23, 2010

Had a call from the DOW today regarding the baby elk. She was killed by coyotes probably sometime last night. Yes, very sad as I think many of us were very invested in her safe being. I am not suprised as she was doing what she had been taught…staying where her Mom could come to get her….but Mom did not come back. She was just too young to defend herself.

So the moral of this story is for ALL of us to continue to keep our dogs under control…at ALL times!

The DOW is most appreciative of our cooperation regarding this situation, and so am I. Thank you!

Diane

P.S. Grooming tomorrow and probably more snow on the way. Was great this afternoon even though Qwest drove two snowmobiles down to Madden corners to do some work…choppy conditions to there. Also there seem to be an increased number of walkers on the trails. So PLEASE, no walking….just skiing or snow shoeing. Thanks….

ELK!

February 22, 2010

The DOW officer chased the elk away from her safe place today…..but she likes it there and came back! He hopes she will move down the beach to Graham Creek where she will have willows to eat. She must be doing what her Mother told her to do…stay in one place and wait. I think Mom has moved on.

Lets just keep skiing and hope she will move soon.

Skiing is great and THANKS to Rob for five hours of grooming today.

See you on the trails!

WOODEN SKI FESTIVAL SUNDAY!

February 21, 2010

What a great day! Many thanks to Dom and Jim for organizing this day. Lots of snow, great skiing on wooden skies and fun time had by all.
We skied a 5k course with great tracks in the new snow, to Brads cabin and back around the beach to a question and whistling contest after eating peanut butter crackers! Those who errored had to do a penalty lap! Costumes were fantastic with knickers and long skirts. Connie I love your hat!

We hope this becomes a tradition. Watch for pictures to be coming soon! Start checking garage sales and second hand shops for vintage skies, boots and poles! Wool sweaters were certainly warm…until they got wet!

We will be grooming on Monday unless there is too much snow to get across the dam!
