New Years Day update

December 31, 2007

Happy New Year’s! Are you getting up early to ski and clear the system of all the toxins? Saturday was about the best skiing we have ever had out there – truly World Cup! We raced and Travis Brown killed us all – he was so far ahead that he skiied the last lap (11k) without poles! And we still didn’t catch him, ay carumba! Me – DFL and couldn’t get out of the tourists way – I don’t remember bonking in a 30 k race before but I could barely make it back to the trailhead! Good thing there wasn’t a hill…

Grooming tonight (New Year’s Eve) instead of partying- not much of a party person anyway and the wind scoured the place today, so it needs grooming! And my wife is in San Fran so I’m batching it – so i might as well ride around on the snowmobile inhaling gas fumes…

Not sure how much I’ll get done – but I’ll try. Any volunteer groomers want to hit it New Year’s Day? I won’t be able to do it as I am skiing Chicken Creek tomorrow – I hear it is good and I’ve never skied there before.

Go to www.pinevalleyski.com for more current updates and trail conditions – I think I finally learned how to do it so I will be posting more frequent updates there…

See Ya on the trails!

Happy New Year!

December 29, 2007

Thanks to E.B and Sarah for grooming today Friday 12/28! Of course as he was putting away the groomer some red neck drove in all the way to East Creek and back in his truck – just to see if he could! Luckily it was cold and frozen though so he did very limited damage – nothing we can’t groom out in the morning! As E.B said though ” the groomer never gets to ski on the good stuff!”

We will be grooming in the morning (and Sunday and Monday and Tuesday if needed) – two more volunteer groomers have agreed to help out – meeting at 9:00 Saturday 12/29 for anyone else who wants to join up (dress really warm). Thanks to Tom Ober and Sherri Wormser – for agreeing to freeze their butts off and help out.

Don’t forget to check the website www.pinevalleyski.com for updates – and post your comments and trail updates too – that’s what the site is for! And of course don’t forget to send us some money – we are trying to purchase another groomer and snowmobile and are about a third of the way to our projected costs of $18,000. We rarely ask for money – and never beg – but wouldn’t it be awesome skiing with a wider ( 8 feet instead of 6) groomer?
I’m just saying…

Happy New Year’s and See you on the trails!

Happy Holidays!

December 21, 2007

It’s Friday night, and as I left Vallecito it was snowing again – snowed on and off all day and never really accumulated much but did make for some sweet skiing – the best of the year so far!!!
Jim Nichols came up and with his help and the perfect temperatures we were able to eliminate most of the ruts from the tractor-with chains -that drove in there early and made those big ruts. we also packed out the beach a little wider and the Sunny beach to – still some rocks on the sunny beach and the “middle” trail so be careful there (we hope to shovel a little Saturday morning and have those trails in good shape by Sunday). East Creek is sweet!

Sunday group ski is 10:00am down at Madden Corners (in the sun where the houses are). 30k skate. hope to see you all there.

The whales have returned!

December 20, 2007

Heard from a little bird that Bob Roule (sp?) groomed about 40 k from Purg (sorry, DMR) to Hermosa and up towards relay creek. So, if you are looking for a long ski this weekend that may be a good one. Just jump on it early before the snowmobiles hit it.

Should be grooming Vallecito Friday Saturday and Sunday, Monday too if it needs it.
Volunteer groomers – you know who you are – can we meet at 9:00 Saturday for a quick grooming clinic?

Thursday night ski at 6pm at the trailhead for any other crazies out there – so far just Tom and I but it is cool!

Sunday group ski, 10am, 30k skate. Just Dom and I last week but again, we had fun!

See you on the trails!

Rick

p.s. The whales have returned to Vallecito – don’t miss them as they only come once a year!!!!

More snow on the way…

December 17, 2007

Sorry I didn’t get to groom for Sunday morning – hockey once again got in the way.
I did groom some Monday morning – opened up the “back forty” -it needs some shoveling in a couple spots -or dare I say it, more snow – but overall should be pretty good once it sets up. Looks like more snow on the way – keep up the snow dancing – so we’ll be grooming like crazy to try to keep up!
Thanks to Buck and Jim Nichols (when you see ‘em thank’ em) for all their grooming this weekend!

World Cup!

December 12, 2007

Groomed all morning – didn’t get to ski – how’s that for dedication?
We’ll be grooming all day Friday so we should be 100% open and ready to rip it up!
Anyone up for a night ski (skate) Thursday night? A group ski Saturday (I have to work Sunday)? 30k skate on Saturday@10AM? Anybody have Fergie’s current email?

Snow!

December 10, 2007

Good job on the snow dance, it snowed at Vallecito Monday – 4″ new so far and still snowing as of Monday night. It will take us a couple days to get it buffed out – next grooming will be Wednesday morning – but it should be World Cup after that! Well, at least by the weekend…

Donation time:
Pine Valley Ski Club
111 Vallecito Drive
Bayfield, CO 81122

We ask $75.00 per person for a frequent user and $100.00 per family -100% of your money goes to the trail, who else does that? All of our grooming time is volunteer!
Speaking of which, yes, we need more volunteer groomers – let me know if you are interested and we can get you trained – with the new stuff it’s as easy as cutting grass with a riding mower (almost…).

Thanks as always!
Rick
